Copilot didn't create your governance gaps, it found them
The headline says Microsoft Copilot reveals AI governance lapses, and I'd underline the word reveals. In the rollouts I've worked on, the assistant rarely creates the problem. It finds it. Overshared folders and stale access groups were always there, just hard to stumble onto. A tool that searches everything a user can technically reach turns that quiet debt into something very visible. That's why the first workstream in a serious Copilot program usually looks like old-fashioned data governance, with permissions cleanup and clear content ownership. If your access model couldn't survive a curious employee with a good search box, why would it survive an assistant?
